Coaching & implementation for accounting firms

Your firm hit a million. So why are you still working 70-hour weeks?

I help accounting firm owners doing $1–5M break the plateau – fix the foundation, get out of the day-to-day, and build a firm you can actually scale or sell. And I've done it: 100+ firm implementations, a crypto practice scaled past $80K/mo, and my own cloud firm running ~60 clients today. Not theory. Reps.

01 The Problem · let's be honest about fit
This is you if ·
  • You own a firm doing $1M–$5M and you've plateaued.
  • You're working 60–70 hour weeks and the business can't run without you.
  • You've got no documented processes – everyone does the work their own way.
  • You're drowning in shiny-object tech (Karbon, Canopy, Double…) and don't know what to commit to.
  • You want to grow, get your time back, or set up a clean exit – but you keep spinning your wheels.
Probably not a fit if ·
  • You want help but won't hand over the keys. No point painting walls when the foundation's cracked.
  • You'd rather learn my job than let me do it.
  • You're not coachable. The best players in any field got there by being coachable. Same rule here.

“Fix the foundation first.”

02 What I actually do

I find the real problem.
Then I fix it.

Most consultants show up ready to fix the problem you told them about. I get to the root of the one you actually have. You say “I need a new system.” I look closer and the foundation's cracked – no documented processes, no source of truth, the wrong people on the wrong work. We fix that first.

A

Right people,
right work

I sit with your team and spot it fast – who's underutilized, who's costing you money, who's the rock star you're wasting. We put people where they actually pay off.

B

The systems
you're missing

Documented SOPs. One company way to do the work – not five people doing it five ways. The structure that finally lets you step back.

C

A tech stack
that fits

I'll tell you what to implement, what to kill, and why – no shiny-object spiral. Karbon, Canopy, Notion, Keeper, Ignition: rolled out across 100+ firms.

The blind spot

Here's what most owners miss: if you're doing all the work, your real profit margin is basically zero – no matter what the P&L says. The win isn't just more profit. It's getting your time back.

Implementation manager

Rolling out new software and don't want to be the villain to your own team? Bring me in to run it. “The coach said so.”

08 About AJ
AJ, owner of Maverick Accounting
// Anthony “AJ” Zepeda · Founder, Maverick Accounting

I didn't stumble into this. I built my way through it – one firm at a time.

My first proving ground was a small firm in Hawkins, TX with 5 cloud clients and a workflow built around desktop software. I rebuilt it from the ground up and grew it from 5 clients to over 50. The lesson stuck: transformation isn't about tools – it's the vision to change how a firm thinks.

From there I joined Kruze Consulting, one of the most respected startup-focused firms in the country. As a controller I managed a book worth $1M+ in ARR, working with names like Superhuman and Mysten Labs – and was their largest billing team member.

Then Acuity, where I rebuilt the Crypto Practice from the ground up – inheriting $40K/mo MRR and scaling it past $80K in under two years, in one of the most complex niches in accounting.

After that, Tooth & Coin as COO: I overhauled their back-end data infrastructure, automated onboarding, and started consulting firms at scale – personally guiding 100+ firms through Karbon implementations, plus Canopy and Double rollouts across firms from $400K to $4M in revenue. That's where I found the real calling: helping accounting firms operate the way they should.

Then I started Maverick Accounting – my proof of concept. A modern, cloud-native firm in Tyler, TX serving ~60 clients across medical, dental, and small business. We run lean, we run smart, and we run the exact systems I'd recommend to any owner serious about growth.

Over the past 8 years I've refined a consulting process built specifically for accounting firms on Karbon (or any practice-management software) and a modern tech stack – workflows, migrations, and tools like Notion, Keeper, and Ignition – designed for clarity, momentum, and results.

Why owners trust me over the other guys: I own and run my own firm. I'm not a sales guy pushing a tool. I live this.
